Kim Kardashian wrote an op-ed in Time, calling on President Obama to use the word “genocide” when describing the 1915 massacres of Armenians by Ottoman Turks. Kardashian talked about her own Armenian heritage and how her family narrowly escaped becoming victims of the atrocities, www.inquisitr.com reports.
Kim Kardashian’s great, great grandparents migrated from Armenia to Los Angeles in 1914 according to the op-ed. In 1915, Ottoman Turks killed 800,000 to 1.5 million Armenians through the systematic destruction of the male population followed by forced death marches through the desert. The Kardashians avoided the genocide by immigrating to the U.S.
Fear led many Armenians to change their last names, but not the Kardashian family, which still carries the characteristic “ian” on the family name.
