Buhari Recalls Kinsman From Retirement, Appoints Him DG SSS

Nepotism is the practice among those with power or influence of favouring relatives or friends, especially by giving them jobs. Is this not nepotism of the highest order? This is why Nigeria has refused to develop and unemployment continue to be a major national issue.

Why is there then career progression? Since a retired employee could be recalled to top position in the same organisation he had served and retired haven reached the mandatory 35 years of service or 60 years of age as recommended by the civil service act.

To me, being his Kinsman, does not matter. What matters most here is the fact that this man had retired from the service nearly three years ago haven attended the required age or length of service or both.

According to premiumtimesng.com, the newly-appointed Director General of the State Security Service, Lawal Daura, had retired from the service before he was recalled Thursday by President Muhammadu Buhari to head the organisation. Mr. Daura, almost 62, who was born in Daura, Katsina State on August 5, 1953, retired from the SSS in 2013, having reached the statutory retirement age of 60.

''President Buhari is also from Daura in Katsina state. But instead of appointing a new director general from some of the highly qualified officers of the organisation, the President rather went for his kinsman in a move many commentators are describing as nepotism.''
