A former high school teacher faces up to 30 years in prison after she pleaded guilty to sexually abusing three male students. Brianne Altice had sex with the students at Davis High School in Utah when they were 16 and 17-years old, prosecutors have said.
She was free during the beginning of the trial, but sent to jail in January after it was alleged that she had continued a sexual relationship with one of the boys while on bail. Altice, 35, tearfully apologised as she pleaded for leniency during her sentencing hearing yesterday. ‘I’ve learned lessons beyond what you can imagine,’ Altice said. ‘A lot of judgments have been made by minds that don’t know me, by mouths that have never asked me a question and ears that have never heard my side.‘One day you’re loved, the next day you’re a target.’
But despite her pleas, Altice was ordered to serve 1-15 years for each count, with two to be served consecutively – meaning she could service up to 30 years. Delivering sentence, Judge Thomas Kay questioned whether Altice was truly remorseful for her crimes.‘I don’t know if you are taking responsibility,’ he said. ‘I also wonder if you’re in denial about what you've done?’ Metro uk.
