The mushroom cloud of the atomic bomb dropped over Hiroshima. |
In 1945, United States drops atomic bomb on Hiroshima, 70 years today. ''The first atomic bomb has been dropped by a United States aircraft on the Japanese city of Hiroshima.'' President Harry S Truman, announcing the news from the cruiser, USS Augusta, in the mid-Atlantic, said the device was more than 2,000 times more powerful than the largest bomb used to date.
Hiroshima is one of the chief supply depots for the Japanese army. The bomb was dropped from an American B-29 Superfortress, known as Enola Gay, at 0815 local time. The plane's crew say they saw a column of smoke rising and intense fires springing up, bbc.co.uk reports.
Here are a few images of what that bomb did to Hiroshima. That is why war with any nuclear power country in this day and age should be avoided by all means. These disturbing images show the grizzly aftermath of the atomic bomb attack on the Japanese city. The entire city was destroyed in one go and over 145, 000 people died as a result.
The attack, 70 years ago today, would have left many of the people in these pictures with acute radiation poisoning, which would have killed them in a few days.
