Jonathan never planned to be more than a 'spare tyre' deputy governor of Bayelsa state with the opportunity to steal a few tens of millions of Naira. All of a sudden, he found himself in Aso Rock, and did a very, very poor job. It is because of people like Mr Murray-Bruce, who promote mediocrity in Nigeria, that we have such a culture of low expectation. Jonathan was an accident, just like Gowon in 1966, and Obasanjo in 1976 and 1999. In a country like Nigeria with legends like Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka and millions of other highly intelligent persons, was Jonathan really the best we could do? We ought to be ashamed such a man ever called himself president.
