Pentagon Confirms Two U.S. Navy Boats Are In Iranian Custody

The Pentagon has said that two US Navy boats are in Iranian custody following the loss of contact with the vessels near Kuwait. Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook said that communication failed as the boats moved through the Gulf between Kuwait and Bahrain today. Ten US Navy sailors – nine men and a woman – have been detained by Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces, senior US officials said, but they will ‘promptly’ be allowed to continue their journey, metro.co.uk reports.

Iran is holding 10 U.S. Navy sailors (9 men, 1 woman) and their two small boats that drifted into Iranian waters with mechanical problems. Iran accused the sailors of trespassing but American officials said Tehran has assured them that the crew and vessels would be returned safely and promptly.
