Woman Who Stole £17,000 Disguised In Burqa Was Caught Because She Used Her Own Mobile Phone To Order A Getaway Taxi

Look, if you are not into this thing called crime, don't just go into it by chance, because you will be endangering yourself, A £17,344 thief who put on a burqa to evade detection was caught after ordering a getaway taxi from her own mobile phone, Metro UK reports.

Krystal Kerr, dubbed the ‘bungling burqa burglar’, knew money was kept in a safe where she worked at a children’s entertainment centre offering dodgems and air hockey in Birmingham.

The 28-year-old stole a key to where the cash was kept at the Fun Station, had it copied then put the original key back without anyone suspecting. But when it came to the actual theft on July 20 last year, she was not so subtle.

Kerr, a mother of two, booked a taxi under a name ‘not a million miles away from her own’ using her own mobile, a court heard.
When she got inside, she disabled the alarms and emptied the safe before returning to the taxi and going to Erdington, where she caught a bus back to her home in Stechford. The court heard £15,500 was discovered stashed under floorboards in her home, which she had stolen to pay for a holiday to Jamaica.

On Friday, Kerr, who admitted theft and burglary, was jailed for 12 months at Birmingham Crown Court.

Police tracked her using CCTV and phone records, and found the money within an hour of arriving at her house. In a police interview, Kerr said that after returning home she went to her local park and burnt the burka and a bag which had contained the money.

She claimed she had stolen the cash in order to flee from an abusive boyfriend.
