Roc Nation, Jay Z’s record label has filed a law suit against Rita Ora for breaking her contract after she has failed to deliver her second album, viralthread reports. They are suing the super star for $2.4 million – this comes after Ora filed a suit against the label for not ‘allowing her to release music properly’.
The British singer signed a five album deal with Roc Nation, but the relationship seems to have broken down with each side blaming the other. The record label have said it ‘has tirelessly promoted [her] career, investing millions of dollars in marketing, recording and other costs, which was instrumental in guiding Ms. Ora to her current level of success and fame.
Ora claims that the deal she signed at the age of 18 violates California law:‘When Rita signed, Roc Nation and its senior executives were very involved with her as an artist. As Roc Nation’s interests diversified, there were fewer resources available and the company suffered a revolving door of executives,’ her filing said.
‘Rita’s remaining supporters at the label left or moved on to other activities, to the point where she no longer had a relationship with anyone at the company.’ It looks as though the two parties business interests are about to cease. Rita’s lawyer Howard King told New York Post’s Page Six: ‘Jay Z has personally and graciously promised Rita complete freedom from Roc Nation, the details of which are now being finalised.
‘We believe that Roc Nation’s distributor, Sony Music, has required Roc Nation to file this action to preserve whatever rights Sony might have pending resolution.’ Despite the fact Rita Ora hasn’t released any music in some time her ‘brand’ has gone from strength to strength. She has made huge amounts of money by endorsing brands such as Adidas, Coca-Cola and Samsung Galaxy S6. She has also been paid huge sums for appearing on The X Factor and posing nude for Lui Magazine. Source; Virathread
