The president of Ukraine has said the political turbulence currently being experienced in the country is partly down to John Terry.
Viktor Yanukovych has faced growing discontent and civil unrest following a decision to suspend the signing of a partnership agreement with the European Union.
Pro-EU and anti-government protesters have been calling for Mr Yanukovych’s resignation as well as a snap election, with up to 800,000 people taking to the streets of the capital Kiev to demonstrate.
In a speech to two American senators last month President Yanukovych reportedly said his resentment of the EU stems from various ‘slights’ he feels Europe has aimed at Ukraine.
Senators John McCain and Chris Murphy were in the country to support the swelling pro-EU protests and a blog post by Mr Murphy described their time there.
‘[Yanukovych] opens by restating his commitment to joining the EU, but spends most of the speech listing the slights he feels Europe has lodged against him and his country,’ Senator Murphy revealed.

During a 70-minute ‘monologue’ the president ‘at one point, spends more than a few minutes talking about a disallowed goal by Ukraine in a 2012 Euro Cup match against England.’
Marko Devic’s ‘goal’ was disallowed after officials ruled Terry had managed to clear the ball off the line, despite replays suggesting otherwise, with England going on to win the game 1-0.
Support for the so-called ‘Euromaidan’ demonstrations is split in the country amid violence against the opposition protesters and a deepening relationship with Russia.
