From breaking bedsprings to breaking UK records, Fifty Shades Of Grey had cinema-goers flocking to watch in its opening weekend, with takings of £4.6 million on its opening night. That trumps any other 18 certificate movie ever, metro.co.uk reports.

There were big expectations when it was announced that the movie not only starred the seriously hot Jamie Dornan, but also featured 20 minutes of naughty business, so it’s not surprising fans were falling over themselves to get a ticket.

It opened on the silver screen on Friday 13 and The Sun reports it was mostly women who snapped up the chance to see Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson get it on.

There were warnings weeks ago that cinemas were booking up fast, with some selling out a week and even two weeks before the film even opened. In America the movie took a whopping $30 million on opening night.

According to a report on the Hollywood Reporter, 80% of tickets bought for Valentine’s Day showings were by couples in America. The film is now said to be number one in 56 markets, with an international debut projected at $158.3 million. A UK metro report.
