The Federal government has officially banned the consumption of local gin popularly known as Ogogoro, following reports of the deaths of several people after consuming the alcoholic drink. The incident in Ondo state in which many people died after developing a strange ailment as a result of consuming the local gin contaminated with methanol in addition to the recently reported incident in Port Harcourt the Rivers State capital wheregot a special mention.
The Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Orhii announced the ban yesterday.
