The Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) Claims Successful Boycott Of Anambra State Election!

Following the low turnout at the just concluded Anambra State governorship election in which less than a quarter of the total number of registered voters actually participated in the election, the Indigenous People of Biafra are claiming that their call for the boycott of the election was successful.

According to reports as submitted by the Returning Officer of the election, Prof. Zana Akpagu, a total of 2,064,134 residents registered and collected their voter cards from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. Of this number, only 457, 511, about 22.16 percent, actually came out on Election Day to be accredited.

Regardless, not all the 457,511 accredited people actually cast their vote. The INEC figure shows that only 21.74 percent of the registered voters (448,771) actually cast their votes. But this is different from the preliminary figures that INEC officials gave out yesterday which stood at:
Number of Registered voters =2,680,000.
The number that voted. = 322, 958.
Number not participated. =2,357,042.
Percentage voted. =12.04%

Already, the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB), has claimed credit for the low voter turnout across the state. The group in a statement on Saturday said Anambra residents listened to its demand that they boycott the polls.

You may recall, IPOB is calling for the breakaway of the Igbos from Nigeria to form an independent Biafra. The group has been labeled a terrorist organization by the Nigerian government.
