Presidential Election 2015: Jonathan Questions Buhari’s Victory

According to a story originally published by and republished by, President Goodluck Jonathan has, for the first time, questioned the results of the March 28 presidential election, maintaining that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is still the dominant party in Nigeria. Jonathan had congratulated Muhammadu Buhari, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), before the final result was announced but has now said he only did it for the unity of Nigeria. He said the PDP could not have recorded the low scores recorded for him in some areas, and attributed the loss in Benue and Kogi to infighting.

Jonathan Pledge To Wipe Out Boko Haram Before May 29th Handover Date

President Goodluck Jonathan pledged Thursday in Abuja that he will do all within his powers to ensure that all Nigerian territory still held by terrorists and insurgents are totally liberated before May 29, 2015. Receiving a delegation of Heads of Customs from the West and Central African Region of the World Customs Organisation led by the Secretary-General of the organisation, Mr. Kunio Mikuriya, President Jonathan said that he was determined to hand over a country completely free of terrorist strongholds to the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari.
The President said that ongoing military operations in the North-East had already recorded huge successes, with two states completely free from the control of terrorists, while operations in the third state had reached a concluding stage. “We can now say two states are completely free from terrorist control, while in the third state, it is only in one Local Government Area that they are still present.

In what has to be the craziest story of the day, a Venezuelan TV presenter stripped naked while reporting on the love life of Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo. Presenter Yuvi Pallares was giving a news report on the possible relationship between Ronaldo and Playboy model Daniella Chavez on television when she inexplicably decided to take off her clothes – for what reason we don’t quite understand. The Federal Ministry Of Aviation Sacks Director Of FAAN Over Appointment Irregularities

The Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka has sacked the Director of finance of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr Tochukwu Bede Uchendu, over allegations of irregularities associated with his appointment into office as well as granting unapproved waivers worth N1 billion.
Mr Uchendu's sack was effected following a petition by the Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) datedMarch 23rdand addressed to the office of the Head of Service.
The unions had alleged that he was still serving as a director in a company owned by the minister, Consumer Investment Limited, and therefore “it is obvious that he may not be able to discharge his duties without fear or favor as he would have to contend with conflict of interests because of his ownership as a board member of Consumer Investment Limited, a company which the wife of the minister is also a serving Director.”

Money Laundering: Igbinedion Gets 6-year Jail Term

Justice Muhammed Lima of Benin division of Federal High Court on Thursday sentenced Michael Igbinedion, son of Gabriel Igbinedion, a Benin based billionaire to six years imprisonment over alleged laundering of N25 billion fund belonging to Edo state government.
Justice Lima also sentenced Patrick Eboigbodin, an aide to the former governor Lucky Igbinedion to 20 years imprisonment, in addition to a fine of N250,000 on a 10-count charge.
Michael Igbinedion, a younger brother to former governor Lucky Igbinedion, was sentenced to two years imprisonment on each of the three count charges. He was however given an option N3 million fine. All the jail terms of the convicts are to run concurrently. PML Securities Limited, one of the companies allegedly used by the convicts to launder the funds, was ordered to fold up and forfeit all its assets to the federal government.

Nigerian Government Wants Return Of Corpses Of 4 Nigerians Executed In Indonesia

The Federal Government of Nigeria through the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, is demanding that the Indonesian government return the corpses of Nigerian citizens executed in Indonesia yesterday over drug offences, condemned their execution and condoled with their families. Gen Muhammadu Buhari; I Did Not Ask Anyone To Bar AIT, Cautions Personal Aides On Media Roles

President-elect Gen. Muhammadu Buhari has denied asking AIT never to cover his activities. According to a statement released and signed by the Director of Publicity for the Buhari Campaign Organisation, Garba Shehu, Gen Buhari said this is the era of change and that he along with his staff will ensure they do not make the same mistakes the outgoing government made.
"The time for change has come and we must avoid making the same mistakes that the outgoing government made" the statement read in part. Meanwhile GMB has asked his  personal aides to stay clear of the media responsibilities. South Africa To Start Giving HIV Victims "Mark" Near Their Genitals For Identification?

President Zuma signed a bill that seems to be one of the greatest steps in the history of trying to combat HIV.From now on, every person who gets tested and is found to be HIV positive will not just get counselling and medication. They will also get a mark in form of a tattoo near their genitals according to the bill signed by the president.Jacob Zuma after signing the bill said;The mark is to protect those who can’t say no to sex.
I mean if you can’t read between the lines you should read between the legs because that’s where the status would be tatted. The choice to be HIV positive is now in your hands or your genitals for that matter…. We also encourage those who had been living with the virus to go to the nearest public hospitals to get their status tatted in.

Buhari Seeks Support of National Assembly, Lauds Jonathan

General Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria’s president-elect has solicited the support of the National Assembly in his bid to revamp Nigeria, reduce unemployment, stop corruption and improve infrastructure. Buhari made the plea in a an address at the occasion of the induction of new legislators of the National Assembly organised by the National Institute for Legislative Studies which held in Abuja today.The former head of state praised President Goodluck Jonathan for his maturity in accepting the results of the election and congratulating him on his success at the polls.

CACOL Writes Buhari, Wants Saraki’s Senate Presidency Bid Stopped

An anti-corruption group, Citizens Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL) has petitioned President-elect Muhammadu Buhari to stop Senator-elect and former Governor of Kwara State, Bukola Saraki’s bid to become Senate President. In the lengthy letter, CACOL said allowing Saraki aspire for the position of Nigeria’s number three citizen not only will soil the country’s image but also make nonesense of Buhari’s avowed zero tolerance for corruption.

According to a news report originally published by the Guardian, Indonesia’s attorney generalHM Prasetyosays the withdrawal of the Australian ambassador from the country is only “momentary”.  The Netherlands have done the same thing in the past. Abeokuta Court Dissolves Marriage Over Wife’s Lack f Vagina

Odd news;  An Abeokuta Customary Court sitting in Ake today Wednesday April 29th dissolved a three-year-old marriage between one Mr Femi Olayiwole and his wife, Kemi, due to the absence of vagina, deceit and frequent fighting. Olayiwole told the court that his wife deceived him to marry her knowing that she could not bear him a child. He accused his wife, who had failed to appear in court after being summoned several times, of living a false life, frequent fighting and threatening his life.
“My wife had been deceiving me since we got married I have never seen her pass through menstruation. My wife does not have any vagina opening. Anytime I ask her for sex, she would give an excuse to back up her refusal. Meanwhile, we have been praying to God to give us children. My wife did not tell me anything about her condition before we got married, until February this year that she confessed to me that she had never experienced menstruation in her life.

President Jonathan Rebukes Buhari; Stop Acting Like A Parallel Government

President Goodluck Jonathan today rebuked Gen Mohammadu Buhari and his transition committee to stop acting like a parallel government, trying to stampede the Jonathan administration out of office.
Addressing state House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting today April 29th, the Minister of National Planning, Abubakar Suleiman who is also a member of the Jonathan Transition Committee, accused General Buhari's transition committee members of making impossible demands from the government. Although he did not name those demands, he however warned that the president’s magnanimity should not be construed as cowardice.

Jonathan Suspends Foreign Affairs Perm Sec Over S'African Spat

Following the controversy that trailed the purported recall of Nigeria's envoy to South Africa, and the denial by the presidency, a Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Danjuma Nanpon Sheni, has been suspended. The announcement on the recall of Nigeria’s ambassador to South Africa led to a scathing reaction from the latter’s foreign affairs ministry on Sunday and a personal jab at President Goodluck Jonathan on the Boko Haram insurgency and the kidnapping of the Chibok girls.

Lottery Winner Dies After Struggling To Deal With Her Wealth

A UK lottery winner who scooped a £500,000 jackpot 12 years ago was killed when she walked onto a railway track near her home. Helen Ford, 54, killed herself in January when she walked onto the track near her home in Penarth, near Cardiff – after struggling to manage her finances.
An inquest at Cardiff Coroner’s Court heard how she had suffered from bipolar personality disorder, and had suffered feelings of ‘loneliness and despair’ as a direct result of this. Indonesia Executes Nine Druggies, Including Four Nigerians, Two Ringleaders, Others.

Tow men accused of being the ringleaders of the Bali Nine drug smugglers in Indonesia  were among nine men executed yesterday at 6pm, local time. Australians Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, along with six others from various countries including four Nigerians (Raheem Agbaje Salami, Sylvester Obiekwe and Okwudili Oyatanze), were taken into the jungle on Nusakambangan and executed by a firing squad made up of 12 police privates, according to local media outlets, metro UK reports.
On of the men, Andrew Chan reportedly married his fiancée Febyanti Herewila within the prison walls a few hours before his execution. The only woman among the lot, Mary Jane Fiesta Veloso, was spared death last minute after new information emerged about her case. A woman who reportedly tricked her into carrying drugs turned herself in earlier that yesterday.

Xenophobia: International Criminal Court To Probe Zuma, Zulu King

Following a petition from the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has decided to probe the xenophobic attacks against Nigerians and other African citizens in South Africa.
SERAP had in a petition dated 23 April 2015 and sent to the Court requested the Prosecutor Mrs. Fatou Bensouda to use her “good offices and position to investigate allegations of hate speech by the Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini, which has resulted in killing, violence and discrimination against Nigerians and other African citizens living in South Africa, as well as the  complicity/negligence of the country’s law enforcement agencies to prevent these crimes against civilian population.

With The Constitution’s Help, PDP Hopes To Produce New Speaker Of House Of Reps

While the All Progressives Congress delays in AGREEING on candidates for National Assembly leadership, the Peoples Democratic Party is reportedly planning to field a candidate on June 6 when an election would be held to pick a new speaker for the House of Representatives. According to a report by Vanguard newspapers, the PDP caucus has held series of meetings in different locations within Abuja to strategise on how the party can present a speakership candidate to sidestep the APC.
The strategy of the PDP is believed to be hinged on Section 50(b) of the 1999 constitution, as amended, where it is expressly stated that the lawmakers shall pick their leaders among themselves. One of those championing the move explained inDETAILto Vanguard what the constitution says about electing a Speaker of the House of Representatives.

APC Reverses Buhari’s Ban of AIT

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that all accredited media organizations in the country, including the African Independent Television (AIT), are free to cover the ACTIVITIES of the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the INCOMING Buhari Administration will not discriminate against any media organization, irrespective of its role during the electioneering campaign leading up to the recent polls, reports. It however enjoined all media organizations to observe the highest level of professional standards in carrying out their duties.

USA; Baltimore Declares Emergency As Freddie Gray Riots Erupt

The US city of Baltimore has declared a state of emergency amid violent protests linked to the death of a black man fatally injured in police custody. A week-long curfew has been announced and as many as 5,000 National Guard troops could be deployed.After dark, a community building that was under construction was engulfed in flames.

PDP Raises The Alarm Over Plot By Gov. Amaechi, APC To Stop Wike’s Inauguration

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has alleged that Governor Chibuike Amaechi and the All Progressives Congress (APC) were plotting to stop the inauguration of the state governor- elect, Chief Nyesom Wike, on May 29, 2015, using a High Court in Awka, Anambra State. A statement issued on Monday in Port Harcourt by the Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee of PDP Campaign Organisation in Rivers State, Emma Okah, said Amaechi and the APC were poised to get an injunction from a friendly court in Awka to stop the inauguration of Wike.
According to Okah, the plot was to shop for and buy a judge outside Rivers State who will agree to do the dirty job since the judiciary in the state had been paralysed by the Amaechi administration. “The PDP further accuses Amaechi and the APC of leaving no stone unturned in planning to carry out the governor’s threat that he will not handover to Chief Wike,” the statement said. According to report making round, the spokesman of the General's campaign organization, Shehu Garba said family and security concerns necessitated that AIT step-aside from the coverage of the handover ceremony. In his words;   "AIT has been asked to step aside based on security and family concerns. In addition, Buhari has decided that they will have to resolve some issues relating to issues of standard and ethics. We will be talking with them to try and resolve the matter, but for now the station has been asked to stay aside because, like I said, there are some family and security concerns.

Russia's Putin: US Agents Gave Direct Help To Chechens

Vladimir Putin has accused US agents of directly aiding rebel fighters in the second Chechen war. The Russian President made the comments in a film on state-run television marking his 15 years in power.
The documentary gives considerable time to the conflict in the North Caucasus, a battle for independence that mutated into an Islamist insurgency. Mr Putin accuses the West of trying to tear Russia apart by supporting terrorists.

South-East, South-South Groups Demand Self-determination

Some groups from the South-east and South-south regions of the country have called for self-rule and self-determination for the regions. The groups, in a programme in Port Harcourt on Monday tagged: “A Solemn Assembly of the Peoples of the Lower Niger”, said they were not satisfied with the present constitution of the country, insisting that the country was designed to suppress the people from the Lower Niger comprising the present-day South-east and South-south zones.
Speakers at the one-day conference organised by the Lower Niger Congress (LNC) expressed their disappointment with the outcome of the 2015 general election, alleging that it was conducted to further push the two zones into the backwaters of the Nigerian nation-state.
